Cardiovascular risk assessment for pilots and air traffic controllers
Following earlier notification (SW2026/121), the updated guidance for assessing cardiovascular risk in pilots and air traffic controllers has now been published. The guidance includes a new flow chart for cardiovascular risk assessment, which can be found in the cardiovascular system guidance material.
The aim is to ensure that risk is managed consistently and proportionately across different medical conditions and medical certificate classes, and is intended to support safe and informed certification decisions based on individual risk. Aeromedical examiners are familiar with the updates and will be able to help with any questions as the revised guidance is put into practice.
