Cardiovascular risk assessment for pilots and air traffic controllers
In the coming weeks we will publish updated guidance for the evaluation of cardiovascular risk, which will apply to the medical assessment of pilots and air traffic controllers.
This follows extensive work and discussion with cardiologists, aeromedical examiners and other national aviation authorities to ensure that cardiovascular risk is managed consistently and proportionately across medical conditions and classes of medical certificate.
The revisions take account of developments in clinical practice, including the wider use of newer investigations such as CT coronary angiography, and are intended to optimise certification decisions based on individual risk assessment and the interests of flight safety.
