New environmental guidance for space companies

The UK Civil Aviation Authority, in its role as the UK space regulator, has worked with the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals (ISEP) to develop a new guide for industry on the Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE).

The AEE is a key part of launch and spaceport licences which looks at the environmental impact of space activity and the mitigations put in place by operators.

The industry led good practice guidance, launched this week, sets out:

  • Clear requirements and principles of AEEs.
  • The recommended good practice approach tailored to the UK space sector, or those planning to launch from here.
  • Examples of how relevance and proportionality can be applied in real world cases.

A webinar will be hosted on Tuesday 17 March by ISEP and we recommend signing up.
