Amateur Built Hot-Air Balloons

We have updated our Safety Directive SD2021-004 to Revision 2 with evolved direction on Non-Part 21 Amateur-Built Balloon and Airship Operational Limitations.

We have also published a new webpage providing guidance to amateur builders on the safe construction and operation of balloons. It outlines how home builders – who complete at least 51% of construction – can safely design and operate balloons outside the formal certification framework.
