Alert: SW2026/185

Aerodrome Emergency Planning – Change to the frequency of full-scale emergency exercises from 4 years to 3 years

Aerodrome Operators may opt to test their plans using a series of modular exercises.

The following guidance is provided to assist Aerodrome Operators in complying with regulatory requirements

A series of modular tests commencing in the first year and concluding in a full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise may be conducted at intervals not exceeding three years and reviewed thereafter.

If this option is chosen, it should be clearly documented in the Aerodrome Manual.

  • Certificated Aerodromes: see UK(EU)139/2014AMC3 ADR.OR.E.005 point (a), paragraph 19.3.
  • Licensed Aerodromes: see CAP168 Chapter 9 para 9.70

Note: Where an aerodrome has (at the time of publication of this alert) commenced a four year modular cycle, that cycle may be completed before changing to a 3 year cycle. If in doubt should discuss with your allocated Aerodrome Inspector.
