New proposals to improve offshore helicopter safety

The Offshore Helicopter Safety Action Group has proposed a series of changes to improve the safety of helicopter operations to the 116 offshore installations in the North Sea.

The new proposals are primarily aimed at preventing incidents from occuring in the first place, and initial proposals increase both safety and survivability, especially in terms of helicopter-related fires on an unattended rig.

This work will tie into ongoing work to improve pilot training and performance, which has already led to significant advances in offshore helicopter safety.
